Hi All!
Hope everyone is doing well and continuing to avoid this sixth wave. I’m officially off isolation, but it’s like Wack-A-Mole with my team at work. I’m back, someone else is off… and then more people go off. It’s brtual out there so keep wearing your mask when you can because I really want to keep going out. Patio season cannot come soon enough.
I’m late getting this out because I took my grandmother shopping today (the first time she’s been shopping in a long time) and I’m hitting send asap because I’m heading out to the first MBA in person social. My extroverted soul is so happy and I’m very much ready to keep this vibe going as the spring continues.
Anyways — it’s Canadian Screen Week which means all week Canadian Screen Awards have been getting handed out and the big celebrity gala is on Sunday. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I am going to win one on day. I’m putting it out there in the universe to manifest. Watching Bridgerton: the Unofficial Musical win a Grammy has really fired me up. I could wait for the big broadcast supported nomination… or I could start a production company with my friends, produce our own stuff and self submit… check in on me next year. I might just do it 👀.
Okay — it’s nearly 8 p.m.. Let’s get into it and hit send.
Things to watch this week:
I’m super here for Around The World In 80 Days, the David Tennant remake. It’s a co-pro between the UK, Frane, Italy, and Geramny and this is the English-Lanuage Canadian premiere. Watch it on Gem today and check ou the the trailer here.
Tonight on HBO check out the 3rd season of HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show on Crave. Watch the trailer here.
On Sunday night, we’ve got the Canadian Screen Awards. Will Marc Critch slap Rick Mercer? Probably not! Canadian TV is far less dramatic, but will they write a slap joke… 100% likely. Watch the stream at 8 p.m. ET on Gem or here on YouTube:
Also on Sunday, we’ve got the series finale of Killing Eve. This show made it’s mark and I know a lot of people are going to be sad to have it off the air. Watch the dramatic conclusion on CTV Drama and Crave. Watch the series finale trailer here.
This one is for Nick and other National Park nerds — on Wednesay on Netflix, President Barack Obama is narrating a series about National Parks. Our Great National Parks is a five part series and looks absolutely fantastic. Check out the trailer here.
Of all the shows I’m excited for this week, Netflix has the new season of Borgen! Borgen — Power & Glory starts streaming on Thursday and I honestly cannot wait. My friends living in Denmark have been texting me non stop about it saying it’s just as good as ever so I’m thrilled. Watch the Danish trailer here (click CC to get subtitles).
Other things to check out:
🎶 Maggie Rogers has new music out. If you remember that TikTok I included two weeks ago about the songwriting circle that included Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlie, and Harry Styles… Maggie was also on that list. She’s got a new album coming out in the summer but her first single is out today.
🎶 I discovered Maren Morris in 2017 because of her Tiny Desk Concert. I’m a huge fan. I’ve since seen her live in concert twice and would love to get tickets for her tour this summer (if any of you are fans let me know and we should get tix!). She’s back in the Tiny Desk space with a Tiny Desk Concert at Home and it’s wonderful. Put it on the background while you work today.
🎶 All I want to do is drive around in the summer blasting Vance Joy and that is going to be a thing. He’s also announced a new album and has a new song out this week called “Clarity”. The music video is adorable and the song is great.
🎶 Okay… the Jack Harlow song did not live up to hit’s potential hype. But the CHOKE HOLD this song had on my FYP on TikTok for the last week... I just want to listen to that loop.
🎬 Marcel The Shell is back this time with a full-length feature film from A24. Watch the adorable trailer for Marcel The Shell With Shoes On here.
📺 Nicki Minaj did Carpool Karaoke with James Corden this week. It’s a lot of fun.
🍿 Lindsay Lohan did the Life in Looks series that Vogue runs. It is perfect.
📺 The way Creators are getting their credit as bonafide celebs and experts is wonderful. I’m obsessed with Hyram. If you know you know. He did Hailey Bieber show and I’m here for it. Watch that here.
🐟 If you want a laugh just trust me and click this.
🐶 A TikToker is recreating 101 Dalmations with his dog and I’m *obessed*… which makes sense because I’ve always been obsessed with the 101 IP.
🎶 Finally, Jon Batiste is having his moment. You need to watch his return to The Late Show after winning five Grammy awards. It is perfect.
Have a great weekend,
-Paula
p.s. I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately and discovered Younger. Um… how did I miss this?! It is so great. Hil Duff for the win.
