Canada's Golden Moment ⚽

Hi All!

DID YOU WATCH THAT GAME?!?!?!?!?! I have been GLUED to the TV all morning just absolutely obsessed with the Olympics and more importantly, obsessed with Christine Sinclair and the women’s soccer team. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were so many nerve-wracking moments and I was so worried for them going into the penalty kicks. I just held my breath until lucky number seven, JULIA GROSSO scored and WON THE GOLD for Canada! I honestly cried, I was so happy for them. Then when they started this montage, I lost it. SOBBING.

I’m just so thrilled for everyone on that team. I’m thrilled for all the little girls in this country watching and being inspired by these women. If these Olympic games have shown us anything - it’s time to really invest in women’s sports. I want to see more professional women’s sports leagues and more women’s sports on TV.

Anyways - if you missed the game the first time around, they are replaying it on CBC today at 3:00 p.m. make sure you watch it.

I did say this was going to be a short newsletter but that was just way too exciting. Expect short from this point out…

Let’s get into it.

This week on the blog:

I’ve got my monthly wrap-up of all the shows I watched in July. I watched 13 different shows this month. My favourite “show” was The Olympics, but a close second and a more typical show was Netflix’s Young Royals. You can read my full list with mini-reviews here.

Things to watch this week:

We’ve got one last weekend of Olympic coverage so that’s what I’ll be watching, but once again if Olympic sports aren’t your thing I have a few things to point out…

Today on Crave you have to check out Anne Boleyn a new three-part drama series. Starring Jodie Turner-Smith — this is a must-watch. Check out the trailer here.

If you’ve got kids, check out Vivo on Netflix today. It’s a new kid’s animated movie with music from Lin-Manuel Miranda. It looks really cute. Watch the trailer here.

Over on CBC Gem, season eleven of the ever wonderful The Great British Baking Show *finally* premieres in Canada. It’s always worth watching. Check out the trailer here.

On Netflix, on Tuesday we’ve got the first instalment of the Untold series. It looks very intense and I’m here for it. It’s a sports docuseries but has a true-crime vibe to it. Watch the trailer here.

On Wednesday, preteens everywhere will be thrilled to watch The Kissing Booth 3. IMO this is a terrible franchise and I have no idea why people love it, but people do and I’m not going to salt their game. If this is your trilogy, I’m thrilled for you. Check out the trailer here.

Other things to check out:

I’ve only got two things to share this week. I’m currently on a bit of a Dermot Kennedy kick. His new song “Better Days is the only one I’ve been listening to. I’ve had it on a loop. Check that out here.

I also REALLY want to point you all in the direction of CBC’s Devin Heroux’s Twitter account. If you want JOYFUL and passionate coverage of the Olympics, he’s your guy. I’ve been living for his tweets. He’s made the Olympics for me this year. I highly, highly, highly recommend checking him out.

Have a great weekend,

-Paula
